Since Fran Siegel's recent migration from New York City to Los Angeles, coastal light, space, and geography have all become
articulated in Fran Siegel's drawings and installations. For "Horizon" Siegel's observations of the dispersions of clouds
and land contours materialize in drawings, paintings, and a site specific wall installation. The horizon functions as
a flimsy shifting line which structures the idiosyncrasies of nature.
These intimate local examinations of universal phenomenon are particularly relevant in the current atmosphere of visual globalization.
This year Siegel was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. The current body of work was initially developed with funding and facilities from a California State University grant.
This is her fifth solo exhibition at Genovese Sullivan Gallery.
